The Bucklebury Farm Park team was celebrating after a successful debut at Royal County of Berkshire Show for Farmer Dee and our lovely Friesian calf Venus. Dee (aka Devante Claridge) and Venus collected two rosettes for third and fifth places in two classes at the prestigious show last weekend. The judge’s verdict was while Venus (who was bottle reared at the farm) was smaller than the other calves being exhibited this time around, in a year’s time she’ll be up to height and better able to give the other competitors a run for their money. Devante, who is 23 and studied Animal Management at Sparsholt College said: “I have been going to the Royal Berkshire Show since I was small and this is something I’ve always wanted to do but never really thought would be possible. Our team leader Anna was a big help in getting both myself and Venus ready for the big day. We learned a lot from our first experience in the show ring and I hope we did Bucklebury Farm Park proud. I would say to anyone who wants to get involved in farming to follow their dreams.”
Our little star Venus (plus rosettes) is now back at the park and she and Dee are looking forward to telling all our young visitors about their big show debut!
